Day 2 Prompt: Be Mindful

Prompt for the day: Be mindful.

Below you will find videos from Minette and Andrea showing our individual thoughts and visual approach to the prompts.

We have a series of 3 written prompts to help you connect with the theme of the day. You can stay at the surface and just write a few words about what mindful means to you or even simply rewrite the dictionary definition. Or you can follow one of the additional prompts to go even deeper into your connection to the concept.

We also offer a visual prompt each day to guide your creative process if desired.

Definition of mindful:

  1. conscious or aware of something.
  2. focusing one's awareness on the present moment, especially as part of a therapeutic or meditative technique.

In your writing:

  1. What is the definition of the word - do you like the dictionary definition or does the word have a different meaning for you?
  2. How do you approach mindfulness in your current life?
  3. How would your life change for the better if you were to be more mindful for the next 10 weeks

Visual Prompt: Paint, draw or collage your page, then paint over it. A great practice in letting go!

Here are a few written reflections on Be Mindful from us:

Andrea: Creating a ritual or routine around my creative practice is just like setting the table for a meal. Sure you can stand at the sink and eat a taco, but it is much more enjoyable on a plate sitting at the table. Rituals are the vehicle that makes my creative practice even more enjoyable because I've signaled my mind/spirit that the time is right to to be single minded and focused on my chosen daily creative practice. Then the drive-by creative moments, the stolen moments of a bit of creativity here and there won't be my main sustaining practice but a simple snack to boost my energy. Rituals help me slip into a creative mindset more quickly and efficiently.

Minette: I love creating rituals and now have a solid morning routine that I enjoy at home or on the road. Because the routine is habit, it's easy to step right into mindful creative expression with my morning pages and art-making. Sometimes when I am tired or feeling out of sorts, I find I need a little extra effort to be more mindful and not distracted. I might light a candle, make a small altar of a few stones and a feather or say a prayer to bring me fully into the here and now.
